Final Thompson closure

July 1-August 14
Thompson Road will be closed between Saltzman Road and 135th Terrace for road construction and realignment. Expect intermittent daytime lane closures from 8:30 am-2:30 pm weekdays on adjacent roads throughout the project area.
Drivers will be detoured to Saltzman Road, Cornell Road and Bethany Boulevard. Cyclists may walk bikes through the pedestrian access (one sidewalk will remain open throughout the construction area) or use the driving detour route.
Paving will be scheduled at the end of the final closure. Thompson Road will reopen in the new alignment (formerly Kenny Terrace). Final striping will be installed about two weeks later.
Please email or call Capital Project Services at 503-846-7800 with any questions or concerns.
Springville Road closure
July 7-September 5

We will widen Springville Road between Joss Avenue and the PCC Rock Creek Campus, connecting to previous projects. Springville Road Phase 4 includes widening the street to three lanes (one lane in each direction and a center turn lane) between Joss Avenue and the Portland Community College (PCC) Rock Creek. The completed project will have continuous buffered bike lanes, sidewalks and lighting on both sides of the street. Vehicle traffic will detour to 185th Avenue, West Union Road, Bethany Boulevard and Kaiser Road. Bikes and pedestrians will detour to Joss Avenue, Swiss Lane and 170th Avenue. Note: There is no vehicle access at 170th Avenue and Springville Road.
The street crosses two streams—one east of the PCC campus entrance and the other between Samuel Drive and Joss Avenue. Culverts at both stream crossings will be replaced to allow fish and small animals to pass below the street. Water quality and detention facilities will treat and slow down surface water runoff before it enters the streams.
Springville Road Phase 4 is the middle and final section of the urban street improvements for Springville Road between 185th Avenue and Kaiser Road. The bike lanes, sidewalks and lighting upgrades have significantly improved safety for all travelers. Contact lutproj@washingtoncountyor.gov for more information.

Paving work starts in July
Our crews and contractors are gearing up to pave roads in unincorporated Washington County in July. In the Urban Road Maintenance District (URMD), we will be slurry seal paving over 200 segments of neighborhood streets. We will be overlay paving four miles.
We have already notified residents who live on or near roads that are being paved. Those residents will receive another notice about 24 hours before work is scheduled to begin. “No parking” signs will be posted on the streets and all vehicles must be moved by the indicated time on the scheduled day.
All our paving schedules are subject to change. Check this page to see if projects are planned for your local roads. Additional paving schedules are being developed. They will be posted online as they become available. You can sign up for text or email updates here.
Four pedestrian projects begin this summer
Four pedestrian projects in the Bethany area are expected to begin construction later this summer.
Crossings with button-activated flashing lights will be installed at: Laidlaw Road and Waterhouse Trail; Kaiser Road and 147th Avenue; and Bethany Boulevard and Mitchell Avenue. In addition, there will be four Waterhouse Trail Crossings with curb ramps, signs and striping.
Building these projects together ensures cost-efficient construction. We’ve awarded a construction contract and are now developing schedules. Construction is expected to begin in late July and finish in October. Schedules are subject to change.
Continuing work on 217 will include further closures
Two more directional closures of Highway 217 will be scheduled on a section of OR 217 north later this summer. ODOT will send advanced notice about this work as it is scheduled. Stay tuned for details. Crews will pave ramps, shoulders and new auxiliary lanes over the weekend closures. Stay informed by signing up for updates on the project page.
