Meghan Rasmussen, Community Outreach Specialist, will join us to outline Washington County Sheriff’s Office Outreach Services, and answer general questions about our law enforcement/public safety provider. If you have a question you’d like to share with her beforehand, send us an email to cpo1leaders@gmail.com.

The full agenda is available on the CPO Meetings page. Each meeting also provides for time for community members to share information and ask questions about local topics— “It’s Your CPO!” Meetings are open to everyone! If you can’t attend our meetings, they are recorded and available on the CPO 1 YouTube channel for viewing at your convenience. Visit our YouTube channel and subscribe! The CPO 1 Facebook Group is a good place to discuss current issues and get timely updates.

Nadine Menashe, Administrative Manager for Oregon State University Extension Services will give an overview of the resources available through this program including podcasts and online and in-person learning events. She’ll share about their website and provide information about how their programs are currently funded. The full agenda is available on the CPO Meetings page.

In May we wrote about the Transitional Housing project underway at the former Doubletree Hotel site near Cornell and Highway 26. A program to discuss the project had been scheduled for the CPO 7 June meeting but that was canceled, according to CPO county administrative staff, and CPO 7 was told, “they will have more information available in the fall and would be able to present.”

CPO 7 did obtain notes from two meetings that were held this spring—one on April 29 with Sunset Church and St. Stephen’s Academy, and another on May 1 with Oak Hills HOA members and other neighbors. The notes are posted on the CPO 7 Facebook page (scroll down to the June 5 posting) but here’s a brief summary. If you want a copy of the PDF document, email us.

The hotel property was identified by Central City Concern as a good site for transitional housing. The county awarded funding in December 2024. CCC found that it was unable to continue with the project due to “capacity constraints” and the Housing Authority of Washington County took it over.

This will be a sober living facility with 24/7 staffing. The program is under development with feedback from advisory bodies and other experts. Further meetings are promised “with neighboring businesses and the Beaverton School District to get a better understanding of how to proceed with neighborhood communication and community engagement. Community engagement will begin in earnest for this site in late fall or early winter 2025 to create a Good Neighbor Agreement to mitigate community concerns or impact.”

In response to a question about how the site could move forward without a land use process, staff said an Oregon Statute (ORS 197.782-783) removes land use barriers for emergency shelter including transitional housing. This is called “super siting.”

Many general and specific concerns were raised about neighborhood safety. Staff said residents would be selected based on their commitment to recovery and the program would be designed to assure that. “More information about this will be known during the Good Neighbor Agreement community engagement process.” The document concludes with an email for questions: homeless_services@washingtoncountyor.gov.

CPO 1 plans to host the presentation during its October 14 meeting and will include CPO 7 members in the meeting.
