La Strada dei Pastelli Chalk Art Festival

Saturday & Sunday, July 19-20, 10 am-6 pm, Downtown Hillsboro’s Cultural Arts District (between First and Fourth Streets and Lincoln & Washington Streets)
The annual summer festival provides a window into the creative process where festival goers can engage with nationally recognized and emerging visual artists as they carefully manipulate bold, colorful pigments to produce huge, temporary drawings down the center of the streets; most averaging 10’x10’. Festival-goers come from all over the USA to watch as artists work in real-time on their street paintings.
Simultaneous to the visual arts exhibitions, local performing artists fill the air with rhythm and sound from the festival’s main stage and multiple pop-up locations in the event footprint. Local art vendors line Second and Third Avenues offering unique items and inspirations. Attendees of all ages are encouraged to take part in hands-on activities being provided by local nonprofit organizations. The Festival is produced by Tualatin Valley Creates and supported by the Host Sponsor, the City of Hillsboro.
Monday Chalk Art Stroll
Monday, July 21, 10 am-6 pm, same area as above
Enjoy a special opportunity for a summer Monday stroll in the Cultural Arts District: one more day to enjoy the stunning chalk art from La Strada dei Pastelli!
The event footprint will remain open to pedestrians (closed to cars) for the “Monday Chalk Art Stroll.” This opportunity offers residents and visitors an extra day to view the stunning chalk art, shop local businesses, and dine in Downtown Hillsboro.
A note about the nature of outdoor chalk art: the professional artists intend their work to be temporary and to exist for a beautiful moment in time—similar to a sandcastle festival. (On its own, the artwork deteriorates in the elements and car traffic would accelerate this process rapidly). Therefore, we invite everyone to take lots of photos and seize the extra-day opportunity to check out the artwork, try a new restaurant, shop local, and enjoy a unique Monday experience in your Cultural Arts District!

Featured 2D Artist
Jean Yarger is an emerging artist whose watercolors capture the essence of places that hold fond memories or exist in her imagination, often reflecting her deep appreciation for nature outdoor scenes. A former music teacher, vocal artist and current President of the Village Gallery of Arts, Jean is a strong advocate for the arts and believes that experiencing art is the path to creative thinking.

Featured 3D Artist: Linda Bourne
Typically, Linda designs asymmetrical ceramic shapes which create movement in each piece. She employs the ancient art of Nerikomi using high fire colorants to make colored clay which can be layered into white stoneware to create random or specific patterns decorating each piece. She has been a potter for over 25 years with works in several local galleries and mentions in two books.

Big and Bold: Joshua Lacroute
“This piece composed from a small number of inspirations includes flower arrangement, still life, and woodblock print. I have been passionate about art ever since I could hold a crayon. There is nothing in this world that is more fulfilling than the feeling of creating. To be able to translate the chaos in my brain into a visual display is one of the most meaningful ways that I can express myself and share my experiences with others. Art is such a beautiful method of creating connections.” “Arrangement,” acrylic on canvas, 30″x 40″.

Announcing Art Dollars for Scholars $600 scholarship recipient
We are proud to present our 2025 scholarship winner: Grey Abrams-Schwartz! “In my college and career pursuits, I aim to combine my passions for art and medicine/science. I absolutely love illustrating biological matter, anything from plants and animals to organs, bones, and even cellular structures. There is nothing more interesting, beautiful, and complex than nature. Drawing these subjects allows me to pay attention to the little things, the tiny but important details of life that we so often overlook and dismiss.”
Grey will be attending Oregon State University this fall, majoring in Biology with a minor in Studio Arts, for a career goal of Medical Illustrator. The $600 scholarship includes a free Student Membership at VGA for the school year beginning in July 2025. His winning artwork will be displayed through July at the gallery.
