Cedar Mill Cider Festival September 21
Our homegrown community event returns, with history, live music, fresh cider, food, vendors and community groups, and fun for all ages.
The main event is the cider pressing, where you can see how pioneers made cider, and sample the delicious fresh pressed juice for free. Market of Choice donates the apples, and scouts from Troop 208 run the press.
Thompson Road planning continues
The next round of upgrades for Thompson Road, from Saltzman to Marcotte, is still in the design phase, but in October Washington County will begin to purchase the necessary Right of Way (ROW) from landowners along the route. The main focus is to add a center turn lane, bike lanes, and sidewalks. Improved storm drains, signage, and street lighting will also be part of the project.
County museum and collections future still uncertain
The items and documents that tell the story of Washington County have been collected over the years and, since 1982, were kept at a building on the campus of Portland Community College, Rock Creek Campus (PCC). In January we learned that the latest group to manage this heritage had failed to obtain the funding necessary to keep it open.
