CPO 1 October meeting: Transitional Housing
Tuesday, October14, 7-9 pm, via zoom

Representatives from Washington County Health & Human Services (HHS) and project partners will attend the virtual Community Participation Organization (CPO) 1 meeting to share information, introduce the newly selected site operator, and answer questions about the development that is a new use for the former hotel building near the intersection of Cornell Road and Highway 26. Everyone interested in learning more is invited to the Zoom meeting. (For information about how to join a virtual meeting, refer to the CPO Zoom User Guide. Link downloads document.)
The plan as we know it is to provide housing and treatment services to homeless people who are also dealing with substance abuse/addiction. Last spring we learned that the county had purchased the property in March. This meeting is the first opportunity that the whole community has to hear directly from the HHS team. Small meetings were held with selected neighbors last spring, and we were told that there would be more information available this fall.
When this meeting was scheduled in July, we were invited to submit questions by mid-September and told that the team would not take new questions during the meeting. Many neighbors sent in their concerns. We compiled them and have created this PDF document so you can follow along during the meeting. Questions are grouped into main topics: Safety & Security; Program Oversight & Sobriety Enforcement; Community Impact; Community Engagement; Support Services; Project timeline & Renovation; Long-term Outcomes; and Other.
We look forward to transparent community engagement as this project moves along. As some of the submitted questions demonstrate, fear and mistrust tend to grow in the absence of information.
As usual, we will also hear from some of our service providers including the Sheriff’s Office, park district, and others. We encourage CPO 1 residents to share their concerns about safety, development, and other quality-of-life issues that CPO 1 can help with. CPO 1 is the Community Participation Organization that serves people who live in Cedar Mill, Cedar Hills and Bonny Slope, but our meetings are open to everyone.
If you can’t attend our meetings, they are recorded and available on the CPO 1 YouTube channel for viewing at your convenience. Visit our YouTube channel and subscribe! The CPO 1 Facebook Group is a good place to discuss current issues and get timely updates.

Single family home on Laidlaw
A house is proposed for 10786 NW Laidlaw on a 2.44-acre lot. The property includes Significant Natural Resource areas. Development is anticipated to avoid the stream, stream setbacks, and vegetated corridors associated with the riparian SNR area. Access is proposed through an easement on a Multnomah County taxlot to the north that is also owned by the applicant.
At press time the county development websites were down for maintenance, but more information now may be available here. Look for application L2500211-M.
