TriMet plans to cut bus service
The regional transit agency TriMet says its expenses are now greater than its revenues, and in addition to administrative cuts it will be reducing bus service on some lines (including 52-Farmington/185th) in November, and on more lines including Line 48 Cornell in March 2026. Service frequency will be reduced during low ridership times, the agency says.

More and deeper cuts will be made later in 2026. These may include frequency, hours and days, and locations.
A survey underway now seeks feedback from the public on priorities for service: whether to focus on high ridership areas or ensure that some service is available throughout the service area.
In addition, open house meetings are being held, including one in Hillsboro and one in Tualatin. There are several virtual meetings scheduled, some multi-lingual.
TriMet is funded by fares, self-employment tax, and payroll taxes levied on everyone within the district boundary. They say that costs are up due to inflation and aging equipment, while ridership is down, partly due to the increase in remote work.
