Keeping the water flowing
Did you know that Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD) keeps over 760 miles of water mains working hard to bring safe, reliable drinking water to homes and businesses across our community? In fact, our mains could stretch from Cedar Mill all the way to Salt Lake City, Utah!
Water mains are the large underground pipes that carry water from treatment plants to homes and businesses. Even though water mains quietly do their job day after day, time, wear, and weather can take their toll. That means some water mains need to be replaced to keep your water flowing smoothly.
Replacing water mains is one of the most important ways we invest in your water system. These projects help prevent leaks and breaks, reduce service interruptions, and make sure clean, safe water keeps flowing to your tap 24/7.
Targeting and replacing our most vulnerable water mains also helps prepare your water system to seamlessly integrate a brand-new water source in 2026 from the Willamette Water Supply System. This upgrade will ensure an even stronger and more seismically resilient water supply that will serve our community for the next century.
Step Inside a Water Main Replacement
Even if a water main replacement isn’t scheduled in your neighborhood, you may see a replacement project somewhere in our community and wonder what is happening. Our new behind-the-scenes video gives a look at how these projects keep TVWD’s system strong and reliable and aims to better inform people living and working near these projects.
You’ll see the whole process: planning, digging, installing new sections of main, testing, and connecting water service—all steps that make sure your water is safe, reliable, and ready when you need it.
Watch the video now on YouTube and get a closer look at how TVWD is investing in a water system that works for today—and for the long term. We know replacing water mains is disruptive, we thank you for your patience.
