Colorful sunset mural at Sunset Mall
First Washington Realty, owners of the Sunset Mall at the northwest corner of Murray and Cornell, recently commissioned a mural that was painted on the western exterior wall of Safeway. The mural features an abstract mountain in the foreground with a vibrant, radiant sunset filling the rest of the scene. It is part of a larger renovation project for the shopping center, more details to come.
Air5—WCSO in the sky
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) offers many specialized duty assignments and enhanced training to provide the highest level of service to our community. One of these specialized teams is the Air Support Unit (ASU). The aircraft, “Air5”, assists patrol deputies and police officers on domestic violence calls, traffic enforcement, drug investigations, warrant arrests, active retail thefts, eluding vehicles, and traffic crash responses, and commonly assists K9 teams who are tracking hidden suspects.
History group working to save the county collection
A coalition of history groups around the county is working to save the history collection housed on the PCC Rock Creek Campus. The History Roundtable is conducting a survey to gather public input to help find a solution to the crisis. Following a series of poor decisions by the former board and a drastic loss of funding, the county museum closed in late 2024. Since then, the Washington County History Roundtable has been advocating to save the massive collection of physical belongings, archival records, and photographs.
