westside singers

Westside Singers performs choral music from the Great American Songbook, jazz standards, and Broadway favorites. In addition to public concerts, they bring their music to assisted living and memory care communities around the area. They are also available for community and nonprofit fundraising events and galas. Retirement communities and organizations in the Portland metro area can inquire about booking performances by emailing secretary@westsidesingers.org.

The group was founded in 1945 in Forest Grove, shortly after World War II. They began as the “Forest Grove Gleemen,” a small ensemble of singers formed in the post-war years. In the 1960s, women were invited to join. Over the past 80+ years, it has grown into Westside Singers, a vibrant community chorus serving Washington County and the greater Portland area.

Cedar Mill Landscape Supply

We always welcome new voices! If you enjoy jazz, pop, big band standards, and classic Broadway, we invite you to learn more about joining us. For membership and audition information, please contact our director, Cathy Bleecker at director@westsidesingers.org.

We also recently launched a Westside Seniors choir, designed for those who prefer daytime rehearsals. This group is open to all voices and does not require an audition. The group rehearses on Mondays in Beaverton. For more information, contact seniors@westsidesingers.org.

Member Karen Snyder says, “Being part of Westside Singers brings together a shared love of music and community. Our rehearsals foster connection, and our performances celebrate the timeless joy of singing together. When I joined, I found a true community—a family. Our choir isn’t just about performance—it’s about connection. I especially love performing for memory care communities.”

All are invited to be part of the Congruencies | Trans:form(ed) community, where embodied understanding of transformation is recognized as a shared human condition. The show is encouraging those navigating a trans, gender non-conforming (GNC) identity journey, and their community, to utilize the open mic as a platform for expressing themselves in ways that feel nourishing, empowering, and healing.

Our season’s grand finale is a trove of discovery—a collection of bold West Coast voices pushing ballet into uncharted territory. San Francisco Ballet’s Davide Occhipinti bends light into motion, while OBT’s own Lauren Flower crafts movement that lingers in the mind long after the curtain falls. Dani Rowe embarks on a new choreographic journey, sparked by the restless, searching energy of a “beehive.” And, as always, The OBT Collection holds one last surprise—an unexpected gem, unearthed.

Step into a world of wonder, color, and tradition with Jardin de Maravillas (Garden of Wonders), a special dance recital inspired by the heart and soul of México. Ballet Folklorico Academia Gabriela dancers will take you on a journey through the vibrant regions of México. Each performance is a story brought to life with beautiful skirt work, intricate choreography, and the enchanting music of México.

June 18 & 25: Eagle Eyes (Eagles Tribute Band) & Conjunto Alegre (Salsa/Cumbia). Enjoy free outdoor concerts in the shade of the trees at Hillsboro’s Shute Park.
