Road News September 2026

At the Murray intersection, crews are replacing two bridges over Cedar Mill Creek and completing culvert upgrades on Far Vista and Walker Road. Much of the work happening now is part of the annual “in‑water work window,” which runs from July 15 to September 30. This limited seasonal window is when crews are allowed to work directly in waterways to protect fish and wildlife.

During construction, the public may see temporary lane shifts, daytime construction noise, and occasional nighttime work needed to keep traffic moving safely through the intersection. Roads will remain open, with at least one lane available in each direction.

The section from 174th Terrace is closed through December 1 while crews replace the aging culvert at Willow Creek. The new culvert will improve water flow during storms, reduce flooding risks, and support healthier creek conditions. The roadway will also be raised to remove the existing dip, improving visibility and creating safer driving conditions once the work is complete.

Travelers should follow signed detours via Cornell Road. Neighborhood streets in the area are reserved for local access, walking, and biking only and will be monitored by local law enforcement.

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is replacing the Cornelius Pass Road bridge over Rock Creek in cooperation with Washington County. The bridge was built in 1946 and was not designed to handle freight traffic. It’s being replaced with a single-span bridge with two vehicle lanes and wide shoulders. A full road closure is needed to remove and replace the bridge safely.

Detours: Cyclists should use Old Cornelius Pass Road. NO TRUCKS. Cars and light trucks: Use Germantown and Kaiser roads. Trucks: Take U.S. 26, I-405 and U.S. 30. Trucks with hazardous cargo: Take U.S. 26, O.R. 217, I-5, and U.S. 30.

Jurisdiction of Cornelius Pass Road was transferred to ODOT, and is now designated OR 127. Once complete, the bridge will be transferred to ODOT for all future maintenance.

Whether or not you use public transit currently, taking this survey will help Washington County Land Use & Transportation (LUT) update the Transit Development Plan (TDP). The Online Open House/survey begins with background information, and then asks for your feedback.

The TDP is a guide for how LUT plans to improve transit in the future and provides a clear vision for better transit service and access. LUT uses the county’s share of Statewide Transportation Improvement Funds (STIF) to support a variety of transportation priorities that serve areas outside the TriMet and South Metro Area Regional Transit (SMART) districts; connect rural communities to the urban area; connect people to and from transit in areas not served by fixed route transit (most of Cedar Mill); provide better public transportation services to low-income areas; coordinate between public transportation service providers to improve connections; and provide public transportation services for students in grades 9-12.

The Plan is updated every two years. The current TDP was adopted by the Washington County Board of Commissioners (BCC) in December 2024. The Washington County Transit Committee will use the results of this survey to develop recommendations to the BCC to help them prioritize public transportation projects for STIF. Once the BCC approves a plan update, it will go to Trimet and then to ODOT.

Let ODOT know your priorities for how your tax money should be spent. ODOT’s Rebuilding Our Transportation Vision Survey will help shape recommendations for the 2027 legislative session.
