Dolores Fallon, 1937-2025
Dolores Marie Fallon, 88, a resident of the Cedar Mill community, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025. Dolores was born on March 6, 1937, in Portland, Oregon. She was one of three children born to Ernest and Marie (Leahy) DeYoung. She lived in the area her entire life.

Dolores attended Cedar Mill Elementary and graduated from Beaverton High School in 1956. During her high school years, Dolores was an active and enthusiastic member of the Choir, participating in musicals and choral concerts. Pursuing her interest in business studies, Dolores learned typing and shorthand and proudly earned a Certificate of Proficiency in 20th Century Typewriting at a girls’ vocational college in Portland.
On an excursion with her girlfriends to the Air Force Base at the Portland Airport, Dolores met a strapping young man, Victor Fallon. It was love at first sight. On March 9, 1957, they were married at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Victor preceded Dolores in death, July 27, 2022, after 65 years of marriage.
Her hobby of genealogy research became a lifetime passion of collecting photos, stories, copies of immigration documents, military medals, and various family heirlooms. She had a wonderful collection of family photos that documented the early history of Cedar Mill, several of which we used in Cedar Mill News. I always enjoyed visiting with her to research various topics, listening to her stories and enjoying her sense of humor.

In 2009 she participated in a Cedar Mill Library history interview and related this: “My great grandparents were Thomas and Ann (McGlone) Leahy. They came to Portland sometime before 1863 with a brother, Dennis Leahy. The Washington County property the Leahy’s purchased in 1865 was first given to two children of a deceased Private in the Captain Thompson Company of the Oregon Militia Cayuse War. It was sold to two different families between the years 1860-1865 before the Leahy’s bought the land. [Ed. Note: Dolores lived in a home on the remaining lot of the original Leahy property, just off Leahy Road.] Another set of my great grandparents came from Ireland in the mid-19th century, traveling around Cape Horn into San Francisco and continuing on to the “gold country,” Calaveras County California, in the year 1853.”
She is survived by son David and daughter-in-law Colette of Canby, son Michael and daughter-in-law Kristi of Beaverton, son Timothy and daughter-in-law Kim of LaPine, and daughter, Joyce of Portland. She was blessed with seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service was held in late July at the Union Cemetery of Cedar Mill.
