Goodbye school, hello summer! Join us for an unforgettable celebration! Bethany Village and Bethany Athletic Club are teaming up to host a summer kick-off event for students from the area. Get ready for an afternoon filled with fun music, free activities from BAC, and the chance to explore a variety of vendors offering delicious treats and specialty goods. This event is designed to engage our youth in the community in a fun and interactive way. We encourage everyone to come out, enjoy the festivities, and support our local businesses. All we ask is that our youth remain respectful to the community and our small business vendors as we celebrate the start of summer together!

As a community service, Sunset Credit Union would like you to know of a new email scam that involves the Social Security Administration (SSA). It works like this: you receive an email that appears to be from the US Social Security Administration, a retirement program run by the US government. The email says your SSA financial statement is now available. It even has an official SSA logo and provides instructions for viewing your statement by downloading an attachment.

However, the email isn’t actually from the SSA. Downloading the attachment installs software that lets cybercriminals access your computer. This software allows them to take full control of your device and steal your personal information, banking details, and private files. They can then use this information to steal your identity and commit financial fraud!

Follow these tips to avoid falling victim to a phishing scam: Never download attachments from unexpected emails. Remember that real government agencies typically communicate sensitive information through paper mail, not email. Check the sender’s email address carefully. Scammers often use sender addresses that look similar to official ones but have small differences. While this scam targets users in the US, remember that cybercriminals can use similar tricks worldwide.

As fraudsters are becoming even more brazen, we’d like to remind you to be extra cautious when giving people and companies your private information. To learn more ways to protect your identity, visit Sunset Credit Union’s website.

Sunset Credit Union is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Washington County. To learn more, stop by our office at 1100 NW Murray Blvd., visit our website, or contact us at 503-643-1335.
